Just Married

Our Halloween wedding was planned in under ten days. We decided to keep it short and sweet, but filled with a lot of love, laughter and (of course) booze. Our guest list was intimate, but those who could be there were.

A new chapter begins...

Just Married: Brighton and I
Our fabulous wedding cake was made a very dear and very gifted friend.

Maleficent is a fictional character and the main antagonist in Walt Disney's 1959 film Sleeping Beauty. She is the self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil" who, after not being invited to a royal christening, curses the infant Princess Aurora to "prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die" before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday. The character is Disney's adaptation of the wicked fairy godmother from the original French fairy tale.

Haggar

Haggar
Haggar the witch is the one responsible for creating all of the Robeasts Voltron must destroy. Though she was once good and beautiful, she is now hideously evil, and is notorious for using her dark magic to cast hypnotizing spells over people. It was Haggar who was responsible for originally splitting Voltron into five components in the American version. In the Japanese version, she was one of Emperor Daibazaal's old love interests, and possibly perhaps even a concubine.

Haggar and Cova
In Voltron: The Third Dimension, Haggar went into hiding after facing defeat in the final battle, but later rejoined Prince Lotor in his conquest schemes. They strike a deal in which, if Lotor conquers the universe, she gets the magic of the lions while he gets the universe and the lions themselves.

Cova
Cova serves ably as a witch's familiar, as much a tool or extension of her power as a pet. She can see through its eyes, and served as a spy until the Voltron team later took any appearance by it as meaning trouble.

Haggar, the Witch Action Figure
Haggar the witch was released in 1984 as part of the first series of figures in Panosh Place's Voltron: Defender of the Universe collection. Panosh Place, a small toy company based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, was awarded the license to manufacture a line of Voltron toys for the popular animated series and released a single wave of 12 figures, several vehicles and a Castle of Lions playset. Although a second wave of items was planned, it was canceled prior to production, as Voltron's popularity waned.

Mother Gothel

"You want me to be the bad guy? Fine... Now, I'm the bad guy."
~  Mother Gothel

Mother Gothel
Mother Gothel is the main antagonist in Disney's 2010 CG animated feature film Tangled (voiced by Donna Murphy). Mother Gothel poses as Rapunzel's mother, but is responsible for kidnapping and locking her in a tower when she was a baby. Though she is quite fond of the young princess, her passive and demeaning comments toward her are anything but nurturing. Gothel's motivation for all of this is purely to keep herself from aging and prolong her life so it is unknown if she ever really cared about Rapunzel. Gothel is very vain, arrogant and makes multiple comments concerning her image. Gothel is pushed further and further into the role of villainess as Rapunzel grows close to Flynn and begins to find out about her true identity. She proves her willingness to go to whatever lengths necessary to keep Rapunzel trapped and her healing powers safe during the film.

The Evil Queen

The Evil Queen
The Queen, often referred to as the Evil Queen or the Wicked Queen, is a fictional character and the main antagonist in "Snow White", a fairy tale set in the German countryside, recorded by the Brothers Grimm. Other versions of the Queen appear in "Snow White" derivative works, and the character has also became an archetype for many unrelated works of fiction.

The Evil Queen
The Queen is a vindictive stepmother who is obsessed with being "the fairest in the land". The young princess Snow White makes her so jealous, that the Queen concocts several plans to kill Snow White through the use of witchcraft. A driving force in the story is the Queen's Magic Mirror, her dark confessor and conscience. The tale is a lesson for young children warning against narcissism and pride.

Bonnie Bennett

Bonnie Bennett
Bonnie Bennett is a heroine and main female character of The Vampire Diaries. While she fills the role of counselor and confidante, Bonnie is also the brassy-but-cautious witch, who discovers her powers just in time to help out her family and friends. She was best friends with Caroline Forbes and Elena Gilbert. She had attended Mystic Falls High School, where she used to be a cheerleader.

Bonnie Bennett (portrayed by Katerina Graham)
Bonnie was also noted for having many heroine tendencies, namely, being repeatedly ready to sacrifice herself for her friends. As her powers have increased, the witch has stepped up at pretty much every opportunity to trade her life for those of her friends. Luckily, when Bonnie was alive and well, her spell-casting abilities most definitely came in handy when the Originals came to Mystic Falls. Since gaining the power of "Expression", a form of exceptionally dark magic, Bonnie has become one of the most powerful characters in the series: she was able to take down two members of the Original family with ease.

Bonnie attempted to use spirit, Expression, and dark magic all at once to bring Jeremy Gilbert back from the dead. Her Grams warned her that no magic was strong enough to challenge the will of Nature, but Bonnie refused to listen. It was too much for her therefore killing her in the process. Everyone except Jeremy, Kol, Silas and Stefan still do not know of her death.

Alexandra is a sculptress and single mother of one daughter; Jane is a newly divorced music teacher incapable of having children; and Sukie is an extremely fertile woman with six daughters, who also works as a journalist at the "'Eastwick Word." Besides an everlasting friendship, these three women also share the similar misfortune of losing their husbands (Alex's is deceased, Jane's divorced her, and Sukie's abandoned her). Unaware that they are witches, the women unwittingly form a coven where they have weekly get-togethers and share their fantasies about ideal men.

The Halliwells

"You can kill me, but you cannot kill my kind. With each generation, the Warren witches will grow stronger and stronger - until, at last, three sisters will arrive. Together, these three sisters will be the most powerful witches the world has ever known, they will defeat all kinds of evil. They will be known as The Charmed Ones."
~ Melinda Warren's last words, before being burned at the stake.

"We're the protectors of the innocent. We're known as The Charmed Ones."
~ Phoebe Halliwell

The Charmed Ones
The Charmed Ones are a sisterhood of three (four) witches who descend from the Warren line of witches. They are known as the most powerful witches ever to walk the Earth, and are dedicated to protecting innocents and ridding the world of evil.

The history of the Charmed Ones goes all the way back to their ancestor, Melinda Warren, a powerful witch who unfortunately lived in the era of the Salem Witch Trials. Melinda possessed all three original Charmed powers; the powers of Telekinesis, Molecular Immobilization, and Premonition, and was the creator of the Warren Book of Shadows.  Each Charmed One has one specific power inherited from their ancestor; the prophecy states that the eldest has the power to move things with her mind, the middle sister can freeze time, and the youngest can see into the past, present, and future. The magical bond between these sisters is known as The Power of Three, and is said to be the strongest form of magic in the world. It is represented by the ancient symbol called the Triquetra. Although the prophecy speaks only of three sisters, there is a fourth Halliwell sister.

The Charmed Ones
After the death of Prue (portrayed by Shannen Doherty) on May 17th, 2001, the Halliwells' long lost half-sister, Paige (portrayed by Rose McGowan), was revealed. She received her powers and joined Piper (portrayed by Holly Marie Combs) and Phoebe (portrayed by Alyssa Milano), taking Prue's place in the Power of Three and reconstituting the Charmed Ones.

The Sanderson Sisters

The Sanderson Sisters
“It’s all just a bunch of Hocus Pocus!”

On October 31, 1693, Thackery Binx, a teenage farmer living in Salem, Massachusetts, discovers his little sister Emily has been spirited away by the three Sanderson sisters, Winifred, Mary and Sarah, who intend to regain their youth by absorbing the life force of children through their witchcraft. Sneaking in the witches’ cottage, Binx’s attempt to save Emily fails when the sisters transform him into an immortal black cat and absorb Emily’s life force, regaining their youth. An angry mob led by Binx’s parents capture the sisters and prepare to hang them, but Winifred’s spell book casts a spell which will resurrect the sisters on All Hallows' Eve when a virgin lights their black-flamed candle. After the sisters die, Binx guards their cottage for the next three hundred years to prevent their return...

The Sanderson Sisters (Portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy)
The Sanderson Sisters
  • Winifred "Winnie" Sanderson (portrayed by Bette Midler) was the buck-toothed leader of the Sanderson sisters. She is the eldest and is highly sensitive to people calling her "ugly". She's also the meanest and wickedest of the three. She's generally the most powerful and most intelligent of the three sisters. She has a great knowledge of dark rituals, curses, and spells. Her robes are green and she rides a corn broom when her broom is stolen.
  • Mary Sanderson (portrayed by Kathy Najimy) was the middle witch sister. Often complimenting and comforting Winnie, she likes to eat children. Her powers are smelling children and keeping track of them. She tends to act like a dog. She is the most observant of the three. Her robe color is red and she rides a vacuum cleaner when her broom is stolen.
  • Sarah Sanderson (portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker) was the youngest witch sister; she also is the dumb blonde archetype. Her powers are hypnosis (by singing a siren song), luring children to feed upon their life force. She also likes to play torturous games with people. Her somewhat revealing robes are purple and she rides a mop when her broom is stolen.

The Stygian Witches

The Stygian Witches
"Give us back the eye!"

The Stygian Witches were a peculiar group of three Greek crone-sisters, the Graeae, who were brought back to prominence in our culture by their portrayal in the classic 1981 epic Greek fantasy movie, Clash of the Titans. In the famous Ray Harryhausen movie, they were played by three veteran British actresses, Flora Robson, Anna Manaham and Freda Jackson.

The Stygian Witches (Portrayed by Flora Robson, Anna Manaham and Freda Jackson)
As is so often the case in Greek mythology, there are a number of different clashing details about the Stygian witches. Some things are certain, though. They were the daughters of Phorcus and Ceta, and may have been born as triplets. They were the sisters of the Gorgons (the famous Medusa and her two obscure sisters, Euryale and Sthenno), and also their assigned guardians. They were grey-haired from the moment of birth – Graeae means ‘Grey Woman’ – and shared between them just a single eye and a single tooth. They were able to pass these organs around between them, so that each could take her turn seeing and eating. However unlikely it may sound, the Graeae are described as originally being beautiful – “fair-faced and swan-like” – although by the time they feature in any legends, they have become old and hideous.

The witches were named Deino, Pemphredo and Enyo. Their names give some indication of their perceived nature – respectively, they mean Dread, Alarm, and Horror. They lived in a dark cavern near the entrance to Tartarus, close to the island where the Gorgons were banished. Enyo in particular lived up to her name; she often appears drenched in blood, and was said to lay waste to entire cities. There are also suggestions that she may have been related to Ares, god of war, either as his mother, sister or daughter, although that is more of a comment on her nature than her genealogy. All three were said to be extremely wise in knowledge, monster-lore and witchcraft.

LEGO: Professor Trelawney

Professor Sybill Trelawney was the Divination teacher at Hogwarts, and although she believes herself to be a great Seer, real prophecies made by her are rare and some consider her a fraud due to her seemingly ineffective methods.

Professor Sybill Trelawney
Professor Trelawney is available in LEGO Set# 4757 Hogwarts Castle.

Sybill Trelawney

"Certainly I knew, Minerva. But one does not parade the fact that one is All-Knowing. I frequently act as though I am not possessed of the Inner Eye, so as not to make others nervous."
~ Professor Sybill Trelawney

Sybill Trelawney
Professor Sybill Patricia Trelawney was a witch and professor of Divination, alongside the centaur, Firenze, at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The great-great-granddaughter of the celebrated Cassandra Trelawney, who was also a Seer.

Professor Sybill Trelawney (portrayed by Emma Thompson)
It was Trelawney herself who made the prophecy concerning Voldemort and the one with the power to vanquish him (Voldemort took this to mean Harry Potter) during her job interview with Albus Dumbledore. At the end of the 1993–1994 school year, she accurately predicted the escape of Peter Pettigrew and return of Lord Voldemort. Two school years later, Trelawney was greatly distressed by Dolores Umbridge, who dismissed her and attempted to banish her from Hogwarts Castle, though Dumbledore allowed her to remain at the school. She participated in the Battle of Hogwarts, dropping crystal balls on Death Eaters' heads and tending to the wounded and killed with Padma Patil.

Professor Trelawney's later life is unknown. She presumably continued to teach — however, since Firenze was welcomed back to his herd, it is possible that she taught Divination on her own again.

She also opposed Dolores Umbridge and her tyranny over the school in the 1995-1996 school year, which the rest of the staff were happy to join her in doing, voted for the school to remain open after the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, and assisted in ousting Severus Snape in 1998. "Potter, you cannot win against me! I was and am the Dark Lord's most loyal servant. I learned the Dark Arts from him, and I know spells of such power that you, pathetic little boy, can never hope to compete!"
~ Bellatrix to Harry Potter during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries.

Bellatrix Lestrange (portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter)
Bellatrix Lestrange
Bellatrix Lestrange  (1951—2 May, 1998) was a pure-blood witch, the daughter of Cygnus III and Druella Black and elder sister of Andromeda Tonks and Narcissa Malfoy. She was one of the few known females in the group, as well as among the most dangerous and sadistic of Voldemort's followers. While Bellatrix and Narcissa married pure-bloodwizards, Andromeda married Ted Tonks and was disowned by the family. At the end of the First Wizarding War, Bellatrix, her husband,Rodolphus Lestrange, his brother Rabastan, and Barty Crouch Jr. took part in the torture of Aurors, Frank and Alice Longbottom to the point of insanity, while searching for information on Lord Voldemort after his first downfall.

Sharon Needles

Sharon Needles
Aaron Coady (born November 28, 1981), better known by his stage name Sharon Needles, is an American drag performer and recording artist. A self-described "stupid genius, reviled sweetheart, and PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) princess," Needles rose to prominence on the fourth season of the Logo reality competition series RuPaul's Drag Race, where he quickly became a fan favorite and was subsequently crowned "America's Next Drag Superstar" in April 2012.  He has been candid in discussing his childhood years growing up in Iowa as a difficult time when he faced anti-gay and anti-"outsider" harassment, which prompted him to drop out of school before he could complete his high school education. In 2004, Needles moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he began working as a professional drag performer in nightclubs and various other venues with the drag troupe "The Haus of Haunt", which Needles describes as "one punk rock, messy mash up of very talented, fucked up weirdos."

In November 2011, it was announced that Needles had been selected to compete as a contestant on the fourth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. The series premiered on January 30, 2012, and Needles was an instant stand-out for his "ghoulish" fashion sense and unconventional make-up choices. On the night of the premiere episode, Entertainment Weekly columnist Tanner Stransky hailed Needles' macabre style as "drop dead genius" and rhetorically asked "Is Sharon Needles the most 'sickening' (a drag term for  'fabulous') contestant ever?"

Throughout the fourth season of Drag Race, Needles endeared himself to audiences and became a favorite of the media, judges, and viewers alike for his quick wit, confidence, and humility, as well as for his "transgressive" aesthetic. However, Needles himself admitted that he was ambivalent in believing that he could win stating, "Being a comedic, campy, shtick queen and seeing how far those types of queens made it in past seasons, I would have been shocked if I made it past the first day."

Needles became a horror host in October 2012 when he began presenting horror and suspense films airing on the Logo network under the series title, Fearce!

Boobarella

Boobarella
On The Simpsons, Booberella is an ample-chested vampire-looking woman and  local TV personality in Springfield. She hosts late-night monster movies and always dresses in low-cut vampire-style outfits that show lots of cleavage. She is well aware of her large breasts, and constantly draws attention to them, makes reference to them, or tells people to look at them. Booberella is the daughter of Bill, an employee in the Accounting department at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant[1]. She has occasionally been seen dating Duffman. Booberella's trademark, unsurprisingly, is her obsession with her own breasts, in combination with talking like a vampire. Booberella also has her own line of handbags.

Boobarella
When Marge Simpson was taken hostage during a bank robbery, she managed to place a cell phone call to Homer and told him that if she didn't make it out alive, he could get remarried to anyone whose name was on the list in the back of his closet. Booberella was one of the names on the list.

The magical silver shoes (changed to the Ruby Slippers in the 1939 MGM film version) were one of her most prized possessions. She met her demise when Dorothy Gale's house landed on her. Her dry, withered body quickly turned to dust, leaving behind only the magic shoes which would become so coveted by the Wicked Witch of the West.

The Wicked Witch of the East (portrayed by Rachel Weisz)
Rachel Weisz portrays the Wicked Witch of the East who is named Evanora in the 2013 Disney film, Oz the Great and Powerful. In this version, she is the older sister of Theodora, Wicked Witch of the West (portrayed by Mila Kunis), and is at war with Glinda ((portrayed by Michelle Williams) for control of Oz. She originally portrayed herself as a Good Witch, and had been an adviser to the former king of Oz, whom she murdered, so that she could be in charge of the Emerald City herself. Evanora deceived Oscar Diggs by framing the King's daughter, Glinda, for the murder and telling him that Glinda is the Wicked Witch instead of herself, which resulted in Glinda being outlawed from the Emerald City and retreating to the South.

A Wicked Lady

The Wicked Witch of the West poses the biggest threat to Dorothy Gale, because she covets the magical pair of slippers which previously belonged to her sister, the Wicked Witch of the East, and are now being worn by the hapless orphan from Kansas.

The Wicked Witch of the West is the one witch in all of Oz whom the Wizard of Oz fears after the Wicked Witch of the East is destroyed. Years earlier (prior to the start of Baum’s novel), the Wicked Witch of the West seized control of Winkie Country in the western part of Oz with the help of her Winged Monkeys. The Wizard has never dared to venture there since, considering himself quite vulnerable to her power.

The Wicked Witch of the West

The Wicked Witch of the West
The Wicked Witch of the West is the most significant antagonist in L. Frank Baum's children's book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The Wicked Witch of the West is the malevolent ruler of the Winkie Country. Her castle is described as beautiful instead of being the sinister fortress shown in the movie. In all versions, she is seriously aquaphobic, and with good reason. The Wicked Witch of the West was not actually related to the Wicked Witch of the East in the books, but leagued together with her, the Wicked Witch of the South and Mombi to conquer the Land of Oz and divide it among themselves, as recounted in L. Frank Baum's Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz. She shows no interest in the death of the Eastern Witch; all she cares about is obtaining the Silver Shoes which will increase her power. The Wicked Witch of the West was one of the most powerful witches in all of Oz. In ensuing Oz books, her power is described as having been so great that even Glinda the Good Witch of the South feared her.

W. W. Denslow's illustrations for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz depict her as a paunched old hag with three pigtails and an eye-patch. L. Frank Baum himself specified that she only had one eye, but that it "was as powerful as a telescope", enabling the witch to see what was happening anywhere in her kingdom from her castle windows. Other illustrators, such as Paul Granger, placed her eye in the center of her forehead, as a cyclops. Usually, she is shown wearing an eye patch, however some illustrations incorrectly show her with two eyes.

The Wicked Witch of the West (portrayed by Margaret Hamilton)
The witch's most popular depiction was in the classic 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz, based on Baum's book, where she was played by Margaret Hamilton. In that film adaptation, as in Gregory Maguire's revisionist Oz novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and its musical adaptation Wicked, as well as the 2013 movie, Oz the Great and Powerful, the Witch of the West is depicted as having green skin. That was never mentioned in Baum's novels.

Magica De Spell

Magica De Spell
Magica De Spell is a fictional character of the Scrooge McDuck universe, a sorceress created by Carl Barks. She constantly steals or attempts to steal Scrooge McDuck's Number One Dime, which she believes will play a vital role in magically obtaining the same fabulous wealth of its owner.

The Sorceress first appeared in The Midas Touch, published in December, 1961. According to Barks, he intended to create her as another recurring antagonist for Scrooge, in addition to The Beagle Boys and Flintheart Glomgold. But in contrast to Witch Hazel from Trick or Treat, first released on October 10, 1952, or even Mad Madam Mim, she would not be in the image of the old hag usually associated with witches. He wanted to create a youthful and attractive enchantress, so he took inspiration for her look from Italian actresses Gina Lollobrigida and Sophia Loren. He also wanted her to be seductive, amoral, and somewhat threatening. In a later interview, Barks identified a similar figure from the comic strips of Charles Addams as another source of inspiration for Magica, namely Morticia Addams of The Addams Family.

Magica De Spell
All in all, Barks drew nine stories with Magica: The Midas Touch (1961), Ten-Cent Valentine, The Unsafe Safe, and Raven Mad (1962); Oddball Odyssey, For Old Dime's Sake, and Isle of Golden Geese (1963), The Many Faces of Magica de Spell and Rug Riders in the Sky (1964). In the latter, Barks tried to increase the usability of the character by having plots turn on other magic artifacts, here a flying carpet, not always having to repeat the joke about Scrooge's first coin.

Morticia Addams

Morticia Addams
Morticia A. Addams is the fictional mother of The Addams Family, created by cartoonist Charles Addams and based on his first wife Barbara. Morticia is the wife of Gomez Addams and mother of Wednesday, Pugsley and Pubert Addams. The character originated in the Charles Addams cartoons for The New Yorker in the 1930s. In the cartoons, none of the family members had names. When the characters were adapted to the 1964 television series, Charles Addams gave her the name "Morticia", implying "death".
The Addams Family
Morticia is described as a vamp; she is slim, with extremely pale skin and long flowing straight black hair. She commonly wears black dresses to match her hair, tightly form fitting, with a hobble skirt. According to Wednesday, Morticia applies baking powder to her face instead of actual makeup.

Morticia Addams (portrayed by Carolyn Jones)
Morticia was portrayed by Carolyn Jones in the television series of the 1960s, and by Anjelica Huston in The Addams Family (1991) and its sequel Addams Family Values (1993). Daryl Hannah played Morticia in the 1998 film, Addams Family Reunion. Ellie Harvie played Morticia in the revival series, The New Addams Family. In the first animated series made in 1973, Morticia was voiced by Janet Waldo. Jones also voiced this character in an episode of The New Scooby-Doo Movies which featured the family. In the 1992 animated series, she was voiced by Nancy Linari. In the 2010 Broadway musical, Morticia was portrayed by Bebe Neuwirth. Brooke Shields replaced her in the role of Morticia on June 28, 2011.

Morticia Addams (portrayed by Anjelica Huston)
Morticia was also the inspiration for Walt Disney's duck-witch Magica De Spell, first designed and drawn by Carl Barks.
