YouTube Treasures: Chase the Morning

So, I finally got around to watching "Repo! The Genetic Opera" last night (yes, I know it was released in 2008). To be honest, it took about 15 to 20 minutes for me to actually get into it. That was probably about the time Anthony Stewart Head showed up. The scene below totally blew me away... loved the whole holographic-eye-projection-thing going on.

YouTube Treasures: Chorus That Sounds Like Rain

This is one of my all-time favorite videos on YouTube. I have always loved thunderstorms (and the rain, in general). My mother has not. In fact, I remember many a night when she would sit in a dark kitchen with nothing but a flashlight and a cross made of this year's Easter palms floating in a flat bowl of water... waiting for the storm to pass us by.

LEGO: Scarecrow

Scarecrow
“Let me know if you see any birds around here!”

The Scarecrow takes his duty of keeping birds out of the farmer’s cornfield very seriously, and he tries his hardest to frighten them off whenever he sees one fly near. He thinks he’s the spookiest thing around, since no one has ever told him that with his smiling face and button eyes, he actually doesn't look all that scary.

Although he can’t tell through his straw-stuffed noggin, the Scarecrow’s wide-brimmed old hat has become a favorite perch for a local crow. It always politely waits until he’s not looking before it swoops down to nab a snack, so as far as he can tell, he’s doing a perfect job!

YouTube Treasures: New York's Village Halloween Parade 2014

Happy Halloween, kittens. I hope everyone had a fabulously spooktastic and safe Halloween. Brighton and I were finally able to make it to the New York's Village Halloween Parade this year after a two year absence (one due to Hurricane Sandy and the other our wedding). We had a nice, small anniversary dinner at a wonderful little dive we discovered "off the beaten path" down by Wall St., and then made our way uptown to around 9th St.

Our evening was not peacefully "uneventful", unfortunately. I've always said that New York has the best "crazies" anywhere in the world, and I was proven right. As our (my) luck would have it, Mr. Crazy #712 was right in front us sitting on a crate, drunk off of his ass... and the parade was still almost an hour away from even starting. He almost fell back onto us twice, cursed at the couples to each side of him, and then started touching the woman's arm next to him before getting into "discussion" about it with her man. The NYPD finally removed him, but Brighton got shoved in the process, and I got hit the knee by the crate and clocked on the side of the head by either the guy's head or elbow. On the positive side, however, we got his spot and a much better view.

Pamela Swynford de Beaufort

"I don't know what it is about me that makes people think I want to hear their problems. Maybe I smile too much. Maybe I wear too much pink. But please remember I can rip your throat out if I need to. And also know that I am not a hooker. That was a long, long time ago." ~ Pam

Pamela Swynford de Beaufort, more commonly known as Pam, is a major character on the HBO original series True Blood. The vampire co-owner of Fangtasia, a vampire nightclub in Shreveport, Louisiana, Pam is played by starring cast member Kristin Bauer van Straten and debuts in the episode "Escape from Dragon House" on the series' first season. A recurring character through the series' first and second seasons, Pam becomes a prominent character on the series' third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh seasons.

Pamela Swynford de Beaufort (portrayed by Kristen Bauer van Straten)
As a human, Pam ran the Comstock Brothel in San Francisco. In 1905, she met Eric Northman and begged him to turn her into a vampire out of desperation. After a century together, Pam is fiercely loyal to her maker, and despite her relative youth as a vampire acts as his second in command in his duties as vampire sheriff of LA: Area 5. Along with Longshadow, and later Chow, she is one of Northman's business partners at Fangtasia. As of 2008, she is the beneficiary of Northman's will, should he ever meet the true death. In 2009, Pam became the maker of Tara Thornton, ensuring the continuation of Godric's vampire bloodline. Shortly afterwards, Eric released Pam from his dominion over her as her maker, in an effort to protect her from the Vampire Authority.

Pam is extremely loyal toward Eric, and acts as his second in command. She is often blunt when explaining things or dealing with most people, regardless of their species. She has a very morbid sense of humor, with a sweet yet highly lethal charm. She can also be very cold and uncaring when dealing with people and seems apathetic to the concerns of others.

Eric has described her as lazy and disobedient, though she is efficient enough to finish all of her required work. Pam strongly dislikes children and appears to be much more sexually interested in women than men (with Eric being the exception), although she doesn't easily make friends with either sex. Pam believes that vampires are superior to their human counterparts.

Pam is also known for being very much a "smart-ass", and is often sarcastic and witty. She is exceptionally cunning, a trait she was shown to have even as a human madam. Pam cares a good deal for fashion, and makes sure her clothing is always the latest style. She never much cared for being a maker, and once she becomes one, she finds raising the new vampire difficult. Pam shows great loyalty to those within her vampire family, particularly to her maker Eric and progeny Tara Thornton.

LEGO: Spooky Girl

Another must have LEGO minifigure for all those who love the kooky and spooky...

Spooky Girl
"Do you want to come play with me?"

The Spooky Girl likes everything that’s creepy, crawly, icky and eerie. She loves having bad dreams and watching scary black-and-white movies. She loves taking long walks through old graveyards, hearing the wind howl at night, and seeing dry leaves fall off of trees. She loves rats and bats and snakes and spiders, and they love her, too.

Because of all that, the Spooky Girl tends to come off as just a little bit…different. People don’t always understand her point of view, or her sense of style, or her habit of suddenly appearing behind them in mirrors when they don’t know she’s in the room. But she can’t help being spooky; it’s just the way she is!

Eric Northman

Eric Northman is a major character in the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh seasons of True Blood. Eric is 6'5" tall, has blond hair and blue eyes, and is played by starring cast member Alexander Skarsgård and debuts in "Escape from Dragon House". Eric was born in Sweden during the Anglo-Saxon period, 900AD. He was turned 930AD, making him over 1,000 years old. Eric is the vampire sheriff of Louisiana Area 5 which encompasses Bon Temps. He owns the vampire bar, Fangtasia, in Shreveport.

Eric is shown to be calculating yet loyal and generally willing to absolve humans that aggravate him, unless they have grievously crossed him. His loyalty as Progeny to his Maker Godric was so strong, that he fell to his knees in tears when Godric decided to end his life by meeting the sun ("I Will Rise Up"). Eric demanded to burn beside him and claimed that he could not live without Godric. The only thing that kept Eric from meeting the sun was Godric's last command as Eric's maker, telling Eric not to stay on the roof with him.

Eric Northman (portrayed by Alexander Skarsgård)
Eric has a great capacity for loyalty and affection, considering vampire nature. He demonstrated this with his progeny Pam ("Fresh Blood") and his growing love and affection for Sookie Stackhouse. When he is reunited with his Vampire sister Nora Gainesborough, they show great affection for one another. Eric claims he would do anything for Nora.

Being a calm and methodical individual, Eric is mostly in control of his emotions. He rarely loses his temper, but has shown a great capacity for violence when pushed. Eric is unconcerned about being viewed as "the bad guy" merely seeing his actions as a means to an end. He is often secretive and can be somewhat of a trickster, but is usually honest and direct.

Eric is confident enough to not think he needs to prove himself. He has a joy of living and a sense of humor uncommon for vampires.

After his memory was erased by Marnie Stonebrook, Eric's personality changes entirely. Losing his memory showed the Eric behind the mask. He is gentle and sweet towards Sookie and is even disturbed by the horrible things he has done when he finds out about them. Upon gaining his memory back he claims he isn't just the old or new Eric, but rather he is both.

Jessica Hamby

Jessica Hamby is a major character in the series True Blood. Played by starring cast member Deborah Ann Woll, Jessica first appeared in the series' first season and remained a prominent character through the series' second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh seasons. Born in 1991, and turned in 2008, Jessica is a young vampire and the progeny of Bill Compton. She was turned as decreed by the vampire Magister, in reparation for Bill's murder of Longshadow, a fellow vampire.

Jessica was raised in a strict and devout Christian family in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jessica and her younger sister Eden were home schooled by their parents. They where not allowed to go out and only went to Bible study and clarinet lessons. Jessica's father would often beat Jessica with his belt to punish her for any faults in her chores or behavior. Jessica's mother was oblivious to this abuse, which Jessica attributed to her mother's "stupidness". Jessica resented the restrictions of her life dearly and secretly developed a rebellious attitude to her father's dominance.

When she became a vampire, she began to explore different feelings and became more open to the world around her. She proves to be deeply insightful at times while showing her naivety at others. Though she's a teenager physically, she is able to mature and grow. She has dealt with traumas like losing her first love (Hoyt) and her family, as well as the violence specific to her circumstances as a newly turned young vampire.
Jessica Hamby (portrayed by Deborah Ann Woll)
Jessica's religious upbringing still resonates within her. She does not live according to her human parent's standards but when Bill appeared to have become more powerful and shared his dystopian vision regarding many vampire's fate, Jessica among them, she began to pray. Jessica has openly admitted on many occasions that she likes feeding on humans and generally detests True Blood, but she is a supporter of the Mainstreaming cause. Her first uncontrolled attempt to feed on a human resulted in his death, but she takes greater care not to injure the humans she feeds on now. The only other times she has killed while feeding were either in combat (such as one of Russell Edgington's werewolves) or when she lost control around Andy Bellefleur's half-fae daughters due to the scent of their hybrid blood.

Jessica feels remorse for the death of Andy's halfling daughters she caused. Even though she is a young vampire prone to blood lust and drawn to fairy blood, she is not ruthless. Like her maker, she tries hard to hold on to her humanity.

Steve Newlin

Steven Newlin, generally referred to in short as Steve Newlin, was a recurring character on True Blood. Played by actor Michael McMillian, Steve was a recently turned vampire, and spokesman of the American Vampire League. The son of anti-vampire advocate Theodore Newlin, he initially continued his father's work after the murder of his entire family, causing him to serve as the secondary antagonist of the series' second season. He was a fanatic and a firm believer that vampires were 'ungodly creatures' who knew no 'humanity'. However, after becoming a vampire himself, he seemed to relish his new undead status.

Newlin was first presented as somewhat of a well-spoken man with a friendly disposition that, while a little odd at times, is altogether cheerful. However, as the series progresses, we see that most of this is a front for his hatred for what happened to him and his family. He is shown to be unstable and unhinged beneath his amiable facade. As a vampire, this tendency seems even more pronounced.

Steven Newlin (portrayed by Michael McMillian)
Like virtually all members of the Fellowship of the Sun, Newlin was a Christian zealot who openly demonized vampires. This is difficult to evaluate, as most of the vampires in the show really are fairly evil, while even the "nice" ones like Jessica are guilty of crimes that would earn any human the death sentence. But as most humans don't seem to realize that vampires have no real regard for human law, have their own government, and condone killing, its possible that his opinion is just prejudice. His inflammatory speeches earned him much criticism. After being changed into a vampire himself, his viewpoint changed dramatically. He now relishes in being a vampire and has stated that his faith as a Christian has been strengthened due to his new status. Newlin is also gay and is attracted to Jason Stackhouse and later to Russell Edgington, whose death devastated him. It is obvious, however, that he will sell out anyone when it comes to saving his own skin as he reveals all the vampires secrets from the knowledge he acquired while working for the authority to the vampire death camp run by Truman Burrell and his ex wife Sarah Newlin.

Salome Agrippa

Salome Agrippa was a vampire that was nearly 2,000 years of age and The Guardian of the Authority. She was a world class seductress and fiercely intelligent, commonly known for her "Dance of the Seven Veils". She was the main antagonist for Season 5 of HBO's True Blood.

Though Salome laments being painted as seductress and femme fatale she does nothing but confirm this view of her. Given her age, Salome is one of the world's oldest and strongest vampires, yet still resorts to using sexual wiles to obtain what she wants. She became lovers with Roman Zimojic and soon after was named his second in command in The Authority. When it became clear that Roman would never meet the Sanguinistas halfway, Salome plotted to get rid of him. Rather than simply kill the vampire 1,500 years her junior, Salome used Russell Edgington to do the deed. Even after 2,000 years Salome still resents her mother for using her to obtain more power. She doesn't hesitate however in manipulating others like Bill Compton in her own quest for greatness. Salome is also somewhat megalomaniacal - never doubting for an instant that she was Lilith's chosen prophetess, which ultimately sealed her fate. She was also hopelessly naive in believing that freeing Russell would make him her 'lapdog' and not question her Guardianship, even though he was 1,000 years her senior. Having had millennia to better herself, Salome showed herself as bloodthirsty as any newborn vampire; viewing humans as little more than sustenance. Salome was also a fervent fanatic: vampires were of the night by extension, the fae were abominations since their blood allows vampires to daywalk.

Salome Agrippa (portrayed by Valentina Cervi)
and Roman Zimojic (portrayed by Christopher Meloni)
Since Salome was ancient at the time she was introduced in the show, it is impossible to tell whether her character had a more friendly attitude towards humans and vampires alike. She was undeniably corrupted to some degree by the consumption of Lillith's blood.

Salome Agrippa was a Judean princess and contemporary of Jesus Christ. Her mother Herodias divorced Salome's father Herod II in order to wed his brother Herod Antipas. When John the Baptist denounced the royal couple as incestuous Herodias orchestrated his death. She was well aware that her new husband had a fondness for teenage virgins and thus used her own young daughter to bend Herod Antipas to her will. Salome was delivered to her uncle wrapped in scarfs and what they did in the bedchamber could be interpreted as a dance. This act give rise to the legend of the Dance of the Seven Veils. Salome quickly found her self vilified by her own people. Even though she was a victim of her mother's lust for power and nothing but a political pawn her reputation was forever ruined. Salome would be  remembered throughout the histories as the original femme fatale 'a symbol of dangerous female sexuality'.

Russell Edgington

Russell Edgington is a major character on the HBO original series True Blood. Brilliantly played by recurring American actor Denis O'Hare, Russell makes his debut on the episode "Beautifully Broken" in the series' third season. The former Vampire King of Mississippi, an almost 3,000 year old, ancient vampire who was formerly a Chancellor of the newly reformed Vampire Authority, Russell was the main antagonist through the series' third season, and a recurring character through the series' third and fifth seasons. Considered by many to be the oldest, and most powerful vampire in existence, as well as the craziest, Russell met the true death in the Season 5 episode "Save Yourself".

Russell appears to be charming and polite, but that facade can be easily broken, revealing him to be manipulative and almost Machiavellian. He occasionally speaks in an ancient Celt language, denoting his origins. He also cursed to Sookie in German. He believes humans have squandered the Earth and believes in protecting the environment of vampires.

After the death of his consort and progeny, Talbot, Russell's sanity ebbs. He speaks to an urn containing Talbot's remains. His actions seem much more erratic than before, and he goes as far as interrupting a newscast, after brutally killing the newscaster. He is entirely focused upon revenge on the Authority, the American Vampire League, and more importantly, those who have taken Talbot away from him.

Russell Edgington (portrayed by Denis O'Hare)
The human man who would eventually be known as Russell Edgington was born approximately 850 years before the birth of Christ in the Carpathian Mountains into a Celtic community of Pagan Druids, who bestowed upon him the name Korun meaning "Raven" in ancient Celtic. As difficult as it is to learn concrete facts about Korun's human life, information on how he became a vampire is even more scarce. Suffice to say he was eventually "made" vampire at some point during the later years of his middle-age life, although both the circumstances surrounding this event, and the identity of his Maker are a completely unknown.

Franklin Mott

Franklin Mott was a recurring character who served as a secondary antagonist in Season 3 of True Blood. He comes to Bon Temps working undercover, becomes fascinated with Tara Thornton and kidnaps her.

Franklin Mott (portrayed by James Frain)
Originating from London, England, Franklin is the vampire that is reliable to have a job done. His price is high, but his skills are more than worth it. Officially a 'private eye', he also specializes in kidnapping. He has no qualms about killing other species, be it vampire, werewolf, or fairy. However, whoever hires Franklin might mean they may end up paying a little more than they bargained for: Franklin has a terrible weakness for women and an even worse track record with them. Franklin often leaves behind a mess and it's more often than not an awfully big mess. Franklin doesn't hold much regard for the vampire hierarchy. He's loyal only to his employer, and even that only extends so far. He has no fear for Kings, Queens, or the American Vampire League. Besides, no one dares to report Franklin's misdeeds. His psychosis is unstable at the best of times, particularly when it comes to women. He can get insanely jealous. Although a mercenary for hire, Franklin is disliked by so many that he works almost exclusively for Russell Edgington, the vampire king of Mississippi.

Elijah Mikaelson

Elijah Mikaelson is an Original Vampire and is the deuteragonist of The Originals. Elijah was born to Mikael and Esther in the 10th century. He has six siblings: a deceased unnamed older brother, an older brother, Finn, two younger brothers, Kol and Henrik, as well as a younger sister, Rebekah. He also has a younger half-brother, Niklaus, and he is the uncle of Klaus's child with Hayley Marshall: Hope who Elijah swore to protect no matter what. Elijah is one of the most powerful creatures ever created alongside his siblings and his half-brother Klaus. The only people physically stronger than him and the rest of the siblings are Alaric Saltzman, Klaus (because of his hybrid powers and abilities), and possibly Mikael. He was one of the major antagonists of Season Two of The Vampire Diaries and a recurring character in Season Two, Season Three and Season Four. Elijah is one of the five leads in The Originals. Elijah is now living in New Orleans, in the French Quarter with Klaus, Rebekah and Hayley first at the Mikaelson Mansion before they moved into the Abattoir.

Elijah Mikaelson (portrayed by Daniel Gillies)
Over the centuries, Elijah has been romantically involved with certain women while being with his siblings and his half-brother Klaus, and running from his father. In the 10th century, while Elijah and his family were still human, both he and his half-brother Klaus were in love with a woman called Tatia, though it is unknown if she returned their affections. In the 14th century, Elijah was involved with Katerina Petrova, the doppelgänger of Tatia. In the 19th century, he was involved romantically with a witch named Celeste Marie Helene Dubois, who later died in a Witch hunt, caused by his half-brother. Now in the 20th century, Elijah rekindled his relationship with Katherine and they had a romantic relationship until he broke up with her and left with his half-brother to New Orleans. Once he got to New Orleans, he learned of a werewolf named Hayley and her child of whom Klaus is the father. Elijah promised her that he'll always protect her and four months later, after some time with Hayley, it seems like he is starting to develop feelings for her but doesn't want to act on them; because he doesn't want to damage his relationship with Klaus again.

Caroline Forbes

Caroline Forbes is a vampire who is one of the main female characters on The Vampire Diaries. She's the daughter of William Forbes II and Sheriff Elizabeth Forbes. She is best friends with Stefan Salvatore, Elena Gilbert and Bonnie Bennett. She is also close friends with Matt Donovan and Niklaus Mikaelson. Prior to her transition into a vampire, she was known for her insecurities, which caused her to be excessively competitive, mainly with Elena.

In the Season One finale, Caroline is severely injured in a car wreck and suffers from internal bleeding. Because her situation was looking pretty bleak, Bonnie and Elena agreed that Damon Salvatore should heal Caroline by feeding her his blood. After Caroline's health improved, she was smothered to death in the hospital by Katherine Pierce, who aware that Damon had healed Caroline, knowingly turned her into a vampire. Katherine planned to use Caroline to her own advantage by manipulating her, and eventually giving her to Klaus to kill in a ritual sacrifice. Damon rescues her and Tyler Lockwood, however, and the deal made by Katherine is forfeited.

Caroline Forbes (portrayed by Candice Accola)
She attended Mystic Falls High School, where she was the captain of the cheer-leading squad, honor student, head of the dance committees, Mystic Falls beautification committee, head of the recycling program, "Go Green" campaign, Miss Mystic Falls, and one of the most popular girls in the school.

Caroline's new vampire nature adds difficulty to her relationship with Matt which eventually causes them to break up despite their love for one another. Matt's friend, Tyler, falls for Caroline after she helps him with his first full moon transformation (after she witnessed him triggering the werewolf gene when he accidentally killed someone). After a time, she realizes that she's in love with Tyler too, so they begin an unfortunately ill-fated romantic relationship. One of the original vampires, Klaus Mikaelson, also falls for Caroline, claiming he fancies her because she's beautiful, strong, full of light, "too smart to be seduced by him", and simply enjoys her company. While he is in the woods with Caroline, he asks her to be honest about her feelings for him and that as soon as they are done with that conversation, he promises to walk away and never come back if that is her wish. They ended up having sex.

Four months after the deaths of Bonnie and Damon, Caroline has dropped out of college and has been trying to find a way to get vampires back into Mystic Falls, as trying to find a way to bring Damon and Bonnie back to the living.

After the three central characters of The Vampire Diaries, Caroline Forbes is the character that has appeared in the most episodes of all others so far.

Katerina Petrova / Katherine Pierce

Katerina Petrova is a fictional character from the hit TV series, The Vampire Diaries. Born June 22, 1473, Katherine is a Petrova doppelgänger, descended from Amara and Tatia. She is an ex-vampire and the ex-lover to both the Salvatore brothers, Damon and Stefan. She first appears as Miss Katherine Pierce in recurring flashbacks to 1864, which feature her romantic entanglements with the Salvatore brothers. She managed to turn them both into vampires, but was concurrently captured by the townspeople of Mystic Falls to be killed in Fells Church (where they planned to lock the vampires in before setting it alight).

Katherine Pierce (portrayed bu Nina Dobrev)
Behind her sweet-nature facade, a much more calculating side of Katherine is revealed through flashbacks in which she escaped certain death with the help of George Lockwood (and at the expense of all the other vampires in town) in 1864. After 145 years, Katherine returns to Mystic Falls, toying with the Salvatores again but clearly with a hidden agenda. Katherine earns no love after she turns Caroline Forbes into a vampire and uses a werewolf, Mason Lockwood, to retrieve a mysterious moonstone. Eventually she is exposed as a doppelgänger who has spent her immortal life fleeing from an Original vampire named Klaus. During Katherine's five centuries of life she became one of the most ruthless, notorious and infamous vampires in history.

Damon Salvatore

Damon Salvatore was a hero, a vampire, and one of the male protagonists of The Vampire Diaries. He was a major antagonist in the first part of Season One. He was the elder brother of Stefan Salvatore. He was born in 1839 and lived in the colonial town of Mystic Falls with his brother Stefan and his father, Giuseppe Salvatore. He became a vampire in 1864. At the time of his return to Mystic Falls, Damon and Stefan hadn't seen each other in fifteen years due to their bitter, violent relationship.

In the 1950's, Damon was captured and tortured by the Whitmore family, of which the members experiment on vampires for a "bigger purpose" and during his 5 years of captivity, he meets another prisoner, Enzo, whom he becomes good friends with. Eventually, the plan the two made failed at a critical moment and thinking Enzo "died" because of him, Damon turned off his humanity to suppress the guilt and sadness. He sought revenge, an act of hunting down every member over generations which he finally ends with Aaron Whitmore's death.

Damon Salvatore (portrayed by Ian Somehalder)
Damon's sole purpose in coming back to Mystic Falls was to free Katherine Pierce, the vampire who turned him and who he deeply loved. After realizing that Katherine never loved him, his love for her faded as his friendship with Elena, Katherine's descendant and doppelgänger, grows. Due to her impact on him and the strengthening relationship with his brother, they begin working together to protect Elena, along with her friends and family. Before his death, and at the beginning of Season Five, he lived with his brother, girlfriend, Elena (when she isn't away at college), and her brother, Jeremy Gilbert in the Salvatore Boarding House.

Throughout the series, his bond with Elena continuously grows and they eventually fall in love with each other. Shortly after her death and subsequent transition into a vampire, Elena's feelings for Damon are heightened which makes her admit her love for him and they start a romantic relationship.

As the bad boy of the show, he goes by this motto: "If you're gonna be bad, be bad with a purpose. Otherwise, you're just not worth forgiving."

Stefan Salvatore

Stefan Salvatore is the main male protagonist (or deuteragonist as Elena is the main protagonist overall), a 165-year-old vampire and both the descendant of and one of the two known doppelgängers of the world's first immortal man, Silas; he is the sole remaining doppelgänger of Silas' doppelgänger line, as well as one of the two remaining doppelgängers overall (the other being Elena Gilbert, who is a doppelgänger of Amara's doppelgänger line). Aside from being the male lead and the deuteragonist of the series, Stefan is also the narrator of The Vampire Diaries, as the story and the series is being told from his point of view. Stefan was born and raised in the supernatural town of Mystic Falls, Virginia and came of age during the Civil War. He's the youngest son of Giuseppe Salvatore and his unnamed mother, who died of consumption, presumably when Stefan was a child. He had an older brother, Damon, who was also a vampire, as well as an unknown half-brother. Stefan has had a love-hate relationship with Damon since 1864, when they both fell in love with Katherine Pierce, the woman who turned them into vampires. In the 1920s, Stefan had a brotherly friendship with Klaus Mikaelson, and was romantically involved with his sister, Rebekah Mikaelson. He was best friends with Lexi Branson until her death, and eventually became best friends with Caroline Forbes sometime in 2009.

Stefan Salvatore (portrayed by Paul Wesley)
Stefan had what seemed to be a rather simple life during his human years. He was the "golden boy" was seen to be noble, dutiful, academic, scholarly and responsible. Stefan was also seen to have a very close relationship with his brother, Damon. This all changed in the year 1864 when Stefan and Damon both met and fell in love with Katherine. Their relationship with Katherine would change Stefan and his relationship with Damon forever. At the tender age of seventeen (just shy of his eighteenth birthday), Stefan was killed, triggering his transition into a vampire. Stefan had blood control issues as a newly turned vampire and could not handle human blood or control himself around it. After Damon had abandoned Stefan due to feeling betrayed by him, Lexi became his mentor and best friend, helping Stefan to control his blood lust and retain his humanity. Over the many decades of his immortal life, Stefan would leave and come back to Mystic Falls on and off, and he spent his time travelling all around the world, being exposed to a variety of different cultures and ways of life.

After many years away, Stefan returned to his hometown of Mystic Falls to visit his distant nephew Zach. On May 23, 2009, Stefan saw Elena Gilbert for the very first time while rescuing her after her parents' car drove off of Wickery Bridge. Although he managed to save Elena's life, he could not save Elena's parents in time. Stefan was initially shocked and suspicious about Elena's uncanny physical resemblance to Katherine Pierce, and decided to research Elena's background in order to make sure that she wasn't the woman he'd fallen for over a century ago and the woman he eventually grew to hate and resent. Eventually, after finding her personal records and observing her from afar, Stefan determined that Elena was definitely not Katherine and that she was in fact the opposite of Katherine in every way. Still, he was strongly and indescribably drawn to and intrigued by her. Because of the connection he had felt towards Elena, Stefan decided to get to know her, so Stefan posed as a new transfer student at Mystic Falls High School. Stefan and Elena had an undeniable connection with each other and instantly bonded, eventually engaging in a romantic relationship. But his relationship with Elena began to become rather chaotic and tumultuous as many outside forces and obstacles tried to keep the two apart. As a result, Stefan and Elena ended up struggling to be together and stay together throughout the series.

The Vampire's Assistant Movie Poster
The Vampire's Assistant is a fantasy-adventure based on the first three books of the series, The Saga of Darren Shan, by author Darren Shan about a teenager who unknowingly breaks a 200-year-old truce between two warring factions of vampires. Pulled into a fantastic life of misunderstood sideshow freaks and grotesque creatures of the night, one teen will vanish from the safety of a boring existence and fulfill his destiny in a place drawn from nightmares.

16-year-old Darren was like most kids in his suburban neighborhood. He hung out with his best friend Steve, got decent grades, and usually stayed out of trouble. But when he and Steve stumble upon a traveling freak show, things begin to change inside Darren. That’s the exact moment when a vampire named Larten Crepsley turns him into something bloodthirsty.

Newly undead, he joins the Cirque du Freak, a touring sideshow filled with monstrous creatures from a snakeboy and a Wolf Man to a bearded lady and a gigantic ringmaster. As Darren flexes his newfound powers in this dark world, he becomes a treasured pawn between the vampires and their deadlier counterparts. And while trying to survive, one boy will struggle to keep their brewing war from devouring what’s left of his humanity.

Jerry Dandrige

Fright Night is a 1985 American horror film written and directed by Tom Holland and produced by Herb Jaffe. It stars William Ragsdale, Chris Sarandon, Roddy McDowall and Amanda Bearse. The film's plot follows young Charley Brewster who discovers that his next-door neighbor, Jerry Dandrige, is a vampire. When no one believes him, Charley decides to get Peter Vincent, a Vampire Hunter TV show host, to stop Jerry from starting a massive killing spree. The film was released on August 2, 1985 and was followed by a sequel, Fright Night Part 2 in 1988, and a reboot in 2011 starring Colin Farrell.

Jerry Dandrige (portrayed by Chris Sarandon)
Jerry Dandrige as portrayed in the original film has been variously interpreted as gay, bisexual and metrosexual. Literary critic John Kenneth Muir noted instances in the original film in which Dandrige and another male character are posed in potentially sexual positions. These include a scene in which Dandrige's male companion, Billy Cole, kneels before Dandrige. Cole is dressing a wound Dandrige has received but Muir found the position reminiscent of fellatio. Dandrige's speech to "Evil" Ed Thompson in which Dandrige convinces Ed to become a vampire is also cast in the language of homosexual seduction, in which Ed is placed in a physically submissive stance and Dandrige speaks of Ed's outsider status in language that echoes the outsider status of homosexuals in the 1980s.

Anthropologist Paul Clough and cultural critic, Jon P. Mitchell, characterized Dandrige as "beautiful but strange" and a man interested in seeking out relationships with young boys and young girls. Dandrige introduces Charley to homosexuality, bisexuality and, through his victims, prostitution. According to Fright Night editor Kent Beyda, writer/director Tom Holland deliberately set out to insert homosexual imagery into the film. He confirmed that the scene in which Cole goes to his knees in front of Dandrige was intended to evoke homosexuality as part of Holland's intent to explore every sexual aspect of the vampire myth.

YouTube Treasures: Once Bitten

Once Bitten is a 1985 American horror comedy film starring Lauren Hutton, Jim Carrey and Karen Kopins. Carrey stars as Mark Kendall, an innocent and naive high school student who is seduced in a Hollywood, California nightclub by a sultry blonde countess (Hutton) who, unknown to him, is really a centuries old vampire.

At 400 years old, the Countess has collected a stable of young men and women who accompany her on her centuries-old journey through eternal night-and youth. While she is immortal, she is required to drink the blood of a young male virgin three times by Halloween each year in order to keep her immortality and youthful appearance - a task she finds increasingly and extremely hard, since attractive young male virgins are almost impossible to find in the 1980s, particularly in hedonistic cities, ex. in this case, Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, high school student Mark Kendall wants to have sex, but is being put off by his girlfriend Robin Pierce. One night, Mark and his best friends Jamie and Russ go into a singles bar in Hollywood. Mark meets the Countess and he goes back to her mansion, and after she seduces him, he passes out when she bites his thigh. When he wakes up, she pretends they have had sex and tells him that he is now hers. Mark doesn't know what she means by that, and over the next few days he begins showing strange behavior; having strange dreams, avoiding direct sunlight and even drinking blood (from raw meat).

Sebastian (portrayed by Cleavon Little) and the Countess (portrayed by Lauren Hutton)
After the Countess gets a second bite, Robin notices Mark's odd behavior and confronts the Countess during a dance-off at the high school's Halloween dance. While it appears that Robin has won back Mark, this is only temporary. The Countess kidnaps Robin in order to lure Mark to her mansion for a final bite before her deadline expires, and it is up to Robin, Jamie and Russ to stop her. Eventually, in order to save Mark from the Countess's clutches, he and Robin have sex in a coffin while being chased by the Countess's minions, thereby taking Mark's virginity, bringing him back to normal. This renders him useless to the Countess as she has to drink virgin blood. Defeated, the Countess then begins to grow old and decrepit before their eyes. The Countess' assistant, Sebastian, tells her not to worry as there are other virgins in the world despite the fact that the Countess doubts she will find another virgin.

Vamp

Vamp is a 1986 vampire film starring Grace Jones and Chris Makepeace. Two college students, Keith (Chris Makepeace) and AJ (Robert Rusler) want to hire a stripper to buy their way into a campus fraternity. They borrow a Cadillac from a lonely rich student (Gedde Watanabe), who insists on coming with them to scope out strip clubs in a nearby city. They find themselves at a club in a shady party of town, and after being impressed by an surreally artistic stripper Queen Katrina (Grace Jones) AJ visits her dressing room to convince her to come strip for their college party. Katrina seduces AJ, then pins him down, killing him with a bite to the neck.

Queen Katrina (portrayed by Grace Jones)
Keith becomes concerned at the delay, and gets help from a waitress named Amaretto (Dedee Pfeiffer) who keeps insisting (to his confusion) that she knows him from their past. They search the neighborhood, and Keith is separated from her while trying to escape from both a psychotic albino street gang, as well as from vampires throughout the area. While hiding in a dumpster he finds AJ's discarded body, but when he calls the police and returns to the club to accuse the owners, the vampires have preempted him by bringing AJ back as undead and bringing him back to the club. AJ confesses to Keith that he's now a vampire, and after realizing that Keith will not kill him and is willing to die for him, AJ stakes himself with a piece of broken furniture.

Keith, Amaretto, and Duncan flee the club, but their car is rammed by vehicles driven by vampires, and after escaping they realize that Duncan has been turned to a vampire, and abandon him in a burning car. The couple attempt to escape through the sewers, as Amaretto breaks down an tells Keith that her real name is Allison, and she knows AJ from a game of spin-the-bottle back in high school. While they flee through the sewers, they find and burn a nest of vampires, but Allison is grabbed and held hostage by Queen Katrina. After an arrow to the face and pipe staked in the chest fail to stop Katrina, Keith kills her by opening a grating, allowing the sunlight to destroy her. Before they can escape to the surface, they are trapped by Vlad, the dead Katrina's vampire consort, until Vlad is staked from behind by a revived AJ, who sheepishly notes that the stake he tried to kill himself with turned out to be formica.

As Keith and Allison climb to the surface daylight, AJ remains in the sewers calling out to him his ideas to go to night school, or work a job on a graveyard shift.

Lilith

Lilith is a character in Jewish mythology found earliest in the Babylonian Talmud, and is generally thought to be related to a class of female demons. In Jewish folklore, Lilith was Adam's first wife, who was created at the same time and from the same earth as he was. Lilith abandoned both her husband and marriage after refusing to become subservient to Adam. She was subsequently cursed by God for her disobedience when she would not return to the Garden of Eden after an affair with the archangel, Samael.

Lilith by Roberto Mendoza*
The resulting Lilith legend is still commonly used as source material in modern Western culture, literature, occultism, fantasy and horror. It is also often cited as evidence that she might have originally been a goddess, or at the very least an aspect of the great goddess and was demonized for being an independent female.

*Lilith is part of the "Simply Divine" series by Roberto Mendoza, and is available for purchase over at his CafePress, Imagekind, Zazzle, and Etsy shops.

The Blood Countess

Much has been written about the Blood Countess, Erzsébet (Elizabeth) Báthory of Hungary. Reviled as the World's Worst Female Serial Killer, Countess Báthory is said to have bathed in the blood of the 650 servant girls she tortured and murdered. Upon her arrest, she was condemned to life imprisonment and walled up in a tower of her castle. Reputed to be a vampire, lesbian, and witch, her shocking story inspired the Brothers Grimm, Bram Stoker, and gothic horror fans around the world for the past four hundred years.

Countess Elizabeth Báthory
Countess Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed was a countess from the renowned Báthory family of nobility in the Kingdom of Hungary. She has been labelled the most prolific female serial killer in history, though the precise number of her victims is debated. Báthory and four collaborators were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of girls between 1585 and 1610. The highest number of victims cited during Báthory's trial was 650. However, this number comes from the claim by a woman named Susannah that Jacob Szilvássy, Countess Báthory's court official, had seen the figure in one of Báthory's private books. The book was never revealed, and Szilvássy never mentioned it in his testimony. Despite the evidence against Elizabeth, her family's influence kept her from facing trial. She was imprisoned in December 1610 within Csejte Castle, Upper Hungary, now in Slovakia, where she remained immured in a set of rooms until her death four years later.

The stories of her serial murders and brutality are verified by the testimony of more than 300 witnesses and survivors as well as physical evidence and the presence of horribly mutilated dead, dying and imprisoned girls found at the time of her arrest. Stories which ascribe to her vampire-like tendencies (most famously the tale that she bathed in the blood of virgins to retain her youth) were generally recorded years after her death and are considered unreliable. Her story quickly became part of national folklore, and her infamy persists to this day. She is often compared with Vlad III the Impaler of Wallachia, on whom the fictional Count Dracula is partly based, and has been nicknamed The Blood Countess and Countess Dracula.
